Representation

The picture on the left is the picture that I used for my front cover and the picture on the right is Avil Lavigne. The similarities between the two pictures are: they are both doing the 'rock on' gesture with their right hands, they are both wearing dark clothing, dark eye makeup and are both posing with their mouths open. Avil Lavigne is a big part of why I made my magazine the genre that I did, because I love her music and her attitude. She also attracts the same kind of audience that I want my magazine to attract. Everything similar in these two pictures are supporting my alternative/emo genre. The shots are both close ups, which helps the reader to connect to them on a more personal level and feel closer to them.

The differences are: that Avril is wearing a hoodie so showing off less skin and has her hood up, unlike the strapless top my model is wearing, the background settings, the black accessories that Avril is wearing and the fact that Avril has a different colour within her hair. I could of tried to make my model look more like Avril, but I also wanted her to have her own individual style and appearance.

The demographics of my magazine are: male and females into the emo/gothic/aternative genre, age 15-25, which will mostly be students or working class. I think that my pictures fit this demographic well, as my model is dressed in dark clothing and I am making it that she produces my genre of music. I think that Avril Lavigne Fits into my genre brilliantly, as she is the queen of emo/alternative fashion, produces this genre of music and has a attitude where she doesn't care what anyone else thinks of her.

The stance that my model and Avril is in, helps show the audience her attitude and the kind of music that she might create. I think that it will also be noticable from the shelf and would be suitable for advertising the magazine and successful in attracting the right kind of audience. It shows people that it's okay to be different and you should be proud of it. They are both beautiful but show it in a different way without flaunting it in short outfits. They are good role models to women everywhere.
